Care for a little dark Americana with vocals reminiscent of Emmylou Harris singing duets with Townes Van Zandt, with perhaps a hint of Mazzy Star?
If yes, then this album is just for you. The self-labeled "alt-country-noir" songwriting and singing team has crafted a collection of moody songs that call to mind the ballads of traditional country old timers like Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson, but through a filter rainy landscapes and world-weariness of post-modern America. It's a bit like a Daniel Lanois soundtrack to a Raymond Carver story, and that's a wonderful thing. Strong vocals, personal lyrics, and solid musicianship are perfectly matched by the warm, roomy production that gives every instrument it's space and never muddies the melodies.
